[View SMS API docs](https://docs.didlogic.com/docs/api/send-sms-message/) ## One number for sending and receiving SMS ### Send and receive on the same number Use an eligible SMS-enabled DID as the numeric sender for outbound messages and receive incoming SMS on the same number. ### Connect to your application Send SMS programmatically from an owned SMS-enabled DID. Incoming messages can be relayed to your configured endpoint through a webhook. ### Use SMS without an integration Send and receive messages through supported didlogic interfaces, including the Webphone and mobile app, with an eligible number. ### Voice and SMS on one number Where the selected DID supports both services, use the same business number for voice and messaging. AVAILABILITY ## SMS-enabled numbers for the markets you need SMS capability varies by country, number type and available inventory, and not every virtual number supports messaging. Tell us which markets you need and whether you require inbound SMS, outbound SMS or both, and we’ll check the available options for your use case. ## Where SMS-enabled numbers fit ### Customer replies Give customers a number they can reply to when your workflow requires two-way messaging. ### Interactive notifications Send a notification from a business number and process the customer’s response, for example in confirmation or service workflows. ### Inbound SMS Use a virtual number when your application or team needs to receive text messages from customers or other services. ### Voice and messaging Use voice and SMS on the same business number where both capabilities are available. ### Multi-number operations Use SMS-enabled virtual numbers when your platform or operation needs dedicated numbers across customers, teams or markets. Whether a virtual or VoIP number is accepted is controlled by the third-party service requesting verification. Some platforms restrict or reject virtual numbers, so didlogic cannot guarantee compatibility with a particular service. If you need numbers for a specific verification workflow, especially in volume, tell us the target country, platform and required quantity before ordering so availability can be checked. ## SMS pricing and message segments Two-Way SMS pricing can include the cost of the SMS-enabled virtual number and the messages you send. Outbound SMS is priced by destination and billed in message segments. A GSM-7 message contains up to 160 characters in a single SMS, while Unicode messages contain up to 70. Longer messages are split into multiple billable segments, so one message received by the user can be billed as more than one SMS. Number pricing depends on the country, number type and available inventory. [View SMS rates →](https://didlogic.com/pricing/wholesale-international-voice/sms-rates/) Two-Way SMS Numbers vs A2P SMS Both products send SMS, but they solve different problems. | | Two-Way SMS Numbers | A2P SMS | |-----------------------|------------------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------| | Phone number required | Yes, an SMS-enabled DID | No | | Sender | Your SMS-enabled virtual number | Typically a business sender ID where supported | | Receive replies | Yes, where the number supports inbound SMS | Not the core use case | | Best for | Number-based conversations and inbound replies | OTPs, alerts, notifications and business messaging at scale | | Typical direction | Two-way | Primarily outbound | [Explore A2P SMS](https://didlogic.com/products/a2p-sms/) ## FAQ: Two-Way SMS ### What is two-way SMS? No. SMS capability depends on the individual number, country and number type. The number is used for outbound messaging and can receive incoming SMS. ### Can I send SMS using the didlogic API? Yes. didlogic documents outbound SMS sending from an SMS-enabled DID owned by the authenticated user. ### How can I receive incoming SMS? Inbound messages on eligible numbers can be delivered to a configured HTTP endpoint. SMS can also be managed through supported didlogic interfaces such as the mobile app. ### Can I use an SMS-enabled didlogic number in the Webphone? Yes. The didlogic Webphone supports outbound messaging using SMS-eligible numbers and provides access to messaging history. ### Can I use Two-Way SMS on the mobile app? Yes. With an SMS-capable number selected, the didlogic mobile app supports sending, viewing and replying to SMS and can notify you when an incoming message arrives. ### Is Two-Way SMS the same as P2P SMS? Not necessarily. P2P describes the nature of the traffic, traditionally person-to-person communication. Two-way SMS describes the ability of a number to both send and receive messages. Carrier classification can vary by country and use case. ### What's the difference between Two-Way SMS and A2P SMS? Two-Way SMS at didlogic requires an SMS-enabled virtual phone number and is designed for number-based messaging and replies. Standalone A2P SMS does not require a DID and is intended primarily for business-generated outbound messages such as OTPs, alerts and notifications. Learn more about [A2P SMS](https://didlogic.com/learn/what-is-a2p-sms/). ### Can I use a virtual SMS number to receive verification codes? An SMS-enabled number can receive incoming SMS where supported, but didlogic cannot guarantee that a third-party platform will accept a virtual or VoIP number for verification. Compatibility depends on the external service. ### How is outbound SMS billed? Outbound SMS pricing depends on the destination and the number of SMS segments. Long messages or messages using Unicode characters can require multiple segments and therefore result in multiple SMS charges.
